Brainspotting

"Where you look affects how you feel." David Grand, PhD

Brainspotting is a mind and body therapy that focuses on identifying and processing stress, anxiety and trauma with the goal of restoring mental and emotional wellness. Based on the idea that eye position can affect emotional state, Brainspotting helps with a variety of issues that create anxiety and stress and impact overall wellbeing. It can also be used to address traumatic experiences, improve athletic performance and work through life transitions and career roadblocks.

Clients often fall into two categories. The first being those who are seeking therapy for the first time. The second are people who have been in therapy before who are seeking a therapist with new techniques. With focus and precision, one can find with eye positions (Brainspots) where the trauma, anxiety, depression or behavioral problems are held in the brain. This allows the brain to process from the inside out and from the bottom up. (Brainspotting.com)

Benefits of Brainspotting:

Brainspotting is effective for a wide variety of emotional and somatic conditions. Brainspotting is particularly effective with trauma-based situations, helping to identify and heal underlying trauma that contributes to anxiety, depression and other behavioral conditions. It can also be used with performance and creativity enhancement.

Developed in 2003 by therapist David Grand, Ph.D., Brainspotting is an offshoot of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR). Brainspotting uses fixed eye positions, selected in session by the client or by the therapist based on where the client feels the strongest response to the primary issue. (Brainspotting.com)

Brainspotting can be used in person and virtually and works well with other approaches.

Brainspotting Intensive offers the opportunity for deep and intentional focus. These appointments are for existing clients already engaging in and benefitting from Brainspotting and want to focus on specific issues outlined in previous sessions. Clients need to plan for an hour and a half to two hours and will schedule this directly with the therapist.  We offer brainspotting in North Carolina and South Carolina.
